Midway Report: What We’re Up To

Can you believe we’ve already reached the halfway point of 2017?

This feeling is familiar, like reaching the midway point of our novels when the adrenaline is fading and we’re at a standstill, not sure how we will ever get to the payoff. But take a moment to stop.

Acknowledge the baby milestones up to this point. Take another deep breath. Now assess the situation ahead and make a plan of attack to rise up and reach The End. Because marvelous things can happen when our WIPs turn into complete works of art.

Here are some of the things that are happening this year for us at Writer’s Block Party – because we persevered to The End and beyond.

Amanda Foody had her first major signing at BEA for her upcoming YA dark fantasy, DAUGHTER OF THE BURNING CITY which releases from Harlequin Teen on July 25, 2017 and is available for pre-order now (Amazon, B&N, IndieBound). Amanda will be signing at ALA TONIGHT (Friday, June 23, 2017) from 6 – 6:45pm at the Harlequin Booth #3516 and will be on the Pop Stage Panel: YA Authors Dish About YA (Autograph Signing Will Follow) on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 1-1:50pm. If you’re there, be sure to stop by!

Akshaya Raman‘s oh so magical short story, “The Navarasa Potion Shop” was featured on The Hanging Garden Tumblr which you can and should read here.

Also be sure to read “Hide and Seek,” Christine Lynn‘s beautiful fantasy short story about sisters (!!!) over on Medium!

This Sunday, June 25th, Axie Oh will have her first major signing at ALA (Sunday, June 25, 2017 11am – 11:45am at Lee & Low Booth #3115) for her upcoming YA sci-fi, REBEL SEOUL, which releases September 15, 2017 from Tu Books and is available for pre-order (Amazon, B&N, IndieBound).

The middle. The middle might feel muddy and murky and all of those horrible adjectives, but look at what can happen when we push through the fear and the doubt. You can get past this point. You can get to The End. You can start all over again with a revision or rewrite, as many times as it takes, as long as it takes until your work is the best that it can be. And you can move onto walking whatever path you’ve laid out for yourself after that, to the best of your abilities. But first we’ve got to get through the middle. Do it afraid. We’re here to cheer you on every step of the way. Especially now, when no one is looking and you feel alone. You’re not alone. We see you. We’re with you. Keep going.

You’ve got this.
